All-Star Update

Just going to check in here and post a quick update to how the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft went. The Leafs that were selected to be apart of the All-Star festivities were wingers Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul, as well as defenseman Dion Phaneuf. The Fantasy Draft was implemented last year as a new way to select the teams for the All-Star game. The NHL chose two team captains as well as two assistant captains that were in charge of selecting the two combating teams. One captain was Daniel Alfredsson, which was a no brainer as the All-Star game is in his team's city, Ottawa. The other captain was grueling, 6'9 defenseman of the Boston Bruins, Zdeno Chara. Henrik Lundqvist, goaltender for the New York Rangers and fellow Swede, was Alfredsson's assistant captain. Chara's assistant captain was Leaf Joffrey Lupul.

Team Chara got the honor of making the first overall selection at which he selected shifty Detroit Red Wing, Pavel Datsyuk. Alfredsson then got the crowd fired up as he selected his fellow Senator and Swede, defenseman, Erik Karlsson. Karlsson is only 20 years old and actually babysits Alfredsson's kids. To the displeasure of the Ottawa crowd, Leaf's Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf were chosen in the eighth and thirteenth round respectively. The final selection of the draft was San Jose youngster Logan Couture, a claim that Kessel had last year. For being chosen last, Couture received a brand new Honda Accord Crosstour as well as $10,000 to donate to his charity of choice.
